Colorado granted several days of rest as the team awaits its next playoff opponent.
The Colorado Avalanche made short work of their First Round Stanley Cup Playoff opponents at Bridgestone Arena on Monday, sweeping the Nashville predators in four games.
NHL STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS ROUND 1 (WESTERN CONFERENCE)
GAME 1: Avs 7 – Predators 2 (Ball Arena)
GAME 2: Avs 2 – Predators 1 (Ball Arena)
GAME 3: Avs 7 – Predators 3 (Bridgestone Arena)
GAME 4: Avs 5 – Predators 3 (Bridgestone Arena)
The Avalanche are guaranteed several days of rest (perhaps up to one full week) as they await their next opponent because the other three Western Conference Round 1, best-of-seven series are all tied at 2 games apiece as of Tuesday afternoon.
St. Louis Blues vs. Minnesota Wild (Series Tied 2-2) * Winner plays Avalanche in Round 2
Game 5, Tuesday
Game 6, Thursday
Game 7, Saturday (If Necessary)
Edmonton Oilers vs. L.A. Kings (Series Tied 2-2)
Calgary Flames vs. Dallas Stars (Series Tied 2-2)
Due to how this year’s playoff bracket is formatted, the Colorado Avalanche now return home to await the series winner between the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild. Colorado is expected to be a significant betting favorite regardless of which team it faces in the Western Conference semifinals.
The winner between the Oilers and Kings will face off in the other semifinal matchup against the team that is victorious in the series between the Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars.
If the Avs win their Western Conference semifinal series, they will be guaranteed home ice advantage over their eventual opponent due to their superior regular season record within the Western Conference. The only team that would have a home ice advantage over Colorado in the Stanley Cup Finals would be the Eastern Conference champion (and 2022 NHL Presidents’ Trophy winner) Florida Panthers.
Colorado Rockies Struggling To Remain Above .500
With a record of 16 wins and 13 losses, the Colorado Rockies have dropped three out of their last four games and are now four games behind the L.A. Dodgers in the National League West division.
The Rockies will play Game 3 of their four game series against the Giants Tuesday night at Oracle Park. On Friday, they will return to Coors Field for a nine-game homestand – with games scheduled against the Royals, Giants, and Mets respectively.
Early on in the 2022 MLB regular season, Colorado can’t seem to get starting ace Chad Kuhl to the mound quickly enough. After five starts and nearly 30 innings pitched, the Delaware native has started out the season with a 3-0 record along with an ERA of 1.84 – by far the best performance among the Rockies’ starting rotation.
Colorado’s team pitching ERA is among the worst in the MLB at 4.50, and are the very worst when it comes to hits allowed and opponents’ batting average (which is .280).
The Rockies currently lead the league in team batting average and are among the top performers in on-base percentage as well as base hits. However, they are only ranked 9th overall in total RBIs and runs scored, according to official stats published by Major League Baseball.
Top Seeded Teams Are Being Tested In NBA Playoffs
The top seeds in both conferences are being tested by lower-seeded opponents in the 2022 NBA Playoffs.
Golden State has a chance to close out the Memphis Grizzlies in Nashville on Wednesday, while the other 3 best-of-seven series are tied at 2 games all. Even the Phoenix Suns have split their four games against the Dallas Mavericks upon losing both Game #3 and Game #4 at American Airlines Center.
The Suns are 1-3 on the road during this year’s playoffs, but still have home court advantage throughout the postseason – with Game #5 and Game #7 (if necessary) against the Mavericks slated for the Footprint Center in Phoenix.
