Rockies will host Los Angeles Dodgers on Opening Day, April 8th
The 2022 Major League Baseball regular season is almost upon us following a labor dispute that almost threatened professional baseball in North America for an entire calendar year. The Colorado Rockies will open their MLB regular season on Friday, April 8th, at Coors Field – perhaps to a capacity crowd of 50,000 fans.
The Rockies are coming off a disappointing 2021 outing in which they failed to make the postseason in the NL West Division, but will be looking to pitching aces German Marquez and Kyle Freeland to improve upon last year’s performances.
If you’re in Colorado but unable to attend the opening series against the Dodgers, there are plenty of options for both land-based and online sports bettors.

Denver Nuggets Heading To The NBA Playoffs?
It appears that the Denver Nuggets have all but secured a playoff seeding in the NBA Western Conference. There are less than 10 games to be played in the 2022 NBA regular season, with the Nuggets firmly established somewhere between the 4th through 7th seed – as long as they don’t have a total meltdown heading into the final stretch.
The Nuggets are well positioned to make the postseason in no small part due to the performance of all-star center Nikola Jokic, who has led all scorers on the team.
Colorado Teams Ousted From NCAA March Madness
All “Sweet 16” teams in the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments have been confirmed, as all in-state Colorado teams have been eliminated from contention.
However, there is still plenty of March Madness action to be had for avid sports bettors who would like to try their luck at predicting the Final Four teams in the 2022 NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.
The men’s defending champion Baylor Bears have already been eliminated, but the top-seeded Stanford Cardinal women’s basketball team are still in contention for a repeat.
Colorado Posts Over Half A Billion In January Sports Betting Wagers
Statistics provided by the Colorado Department of Revenue show that legal sports betting handle for the month of January exceeded $573 million, with sportsbooks holding roughly 6% of that amount. This resulted in approximately $1.5 million being paid to the state’s coffers due to the tax rate being calculated according to Net Sports Betting Proceeds (NSBP).
Online sports wagers massively outpaced the retain sportsbook sector ($567 million compared to only $6.6 million for brick & mortar establishments), and the combination of football & basketball games accounted for more than half of all Colorado wagering activity in January 2022.
Colorado’s unimpressive state tax retention on legalized sports betting (perhaps better defined as approximately 10% of one-third of 6 percent of all wagering activity) has further solidified the status of legal sports betting as a “low yield” business opportunity. An opportunity that in no way compares to legalized online casino gambling.
However, Colorado has no plans to make iCasino products legal at this time. Only a handful of states have made that activity legal so far.
