Colorado Rockies Could Pick First In 2023 MLB Draft

As the eighth worst team in Major League Baseball, Colorado’s 54-72 record all but guarantees the team will be eligible for a slim chance to win next year’s Draft Lottery.

The Colorado Rockies have dropped two out of every three games since the All-Star Break (11 wins and 22 losses), and are comfortably ranked last in the National League West division with about three dozen regular season games remaining.

If the Rockies continue at their dismal second-half of the regular season pace, they will end the season at about 67-95 – which would be just above .400 and would easily qualify them for a relatively high possibility (compared to all other teams in the league) to win the 2023 MLB Draft Lottery.

Thanks to new Collective Bargaining Agreement rules between players and the league that come into effect next year, the 18 MLB teams that fail to qualify for the postseason will have at least a marginal crack at obtaining the #1 overall pick in 2023.

Colorado currently has the 8th worst record in the league, which would give them a 3.9% shot at winning the Draft Lottery next year if the regular season ended in late August. The more losses the Rockies accumulate over their remaining regular season games, the better their chances will be at choosing first in the 2023 MLB Draft.

Although the Rockies have managed to play just above .500 baseball at Coors Field this season, their road record is the worst in the league at 18 wins and 40 losses.

Colorado’s professional baseball team has turned out to have practically the opposite performance this year when compared to its pro ice hockey team. The Colorado Avalanche won their third NHL Stanley Cup in team history earlier this year by defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 in the championship series.

Denver Broncos Vs. Minnesota Vikings NFL Preseason Finale Saturday Night

The Denver Broncos, under new QB acquisition Russell Wilson, will play their final NFL preseason game this Saturday Night at Mile High against the Minnesota Vikings.

Despite all the buzz around the Super Bowl winning quarterback, the Broncos’ head coach Nathaniel Hackett has confirmed that the star QB will remain on the bench until Denver’s regular season opener on Monday Night Football at Lumen Stadium in Seattle on September 12th.

The decision makes the MNF Week 1 matchup on ESPN even more intriguing as Russell Wilson will start his first NFL game against the Seahawks in his career.

The Monday Night Football kickoff time is slated for a (very) early 5:15pm Pacific Time (8:15pm Eastern), meaning there will still be daylight for the first half of the game.

FanDuel Sportsbook Colorado currently has Denver favored by 6.5 points for the September 12th MNF opener, while Vegas Insider has the Broncos listed as 5.5 point favorites as of the last weekend in August.
